This is one of those weeks when my brain has shut down, and if it weren’t for my notes, I wouldn’t be able to think of a thing to write about.

Last week I went into the Kendall Public Library, and library director Lynette Vlasak found three good books on wildflowers with color pictures for me to use to try to identify some of the blooms growing along the local roads.

Here we are in the last month of summer. Finishing up the month of July last Tuesday, the Kendall Public Library book club met and discussed the century-old novel “My Antonia” by Willa Cather.

Every week I try to think of something to begin this column that may interest the readers, and sometimes I think I succeed, but this week my brain is in neutral, and I can only think that I should just get right to the news of the neighborhood and what has been going on during the past week.

One of the joys of living in our neighborhood is the sound of tractors on the road as they go past our place, followed by the clip clop of Amish horses’ hooves.

Last week, the Fauskas were in Barron, Wis., at cousin Louise Kaus’, where we spent the weekend with relatives.
