William P. Sheridan Jr. (Bill), 84, of Madison passed away Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2016, at Agrace Hospice Care in Madison.

He was born in Sparta on Feb. 12, 1932, to William and Alice Beryl (Senogles) Sheridan. Bill and his former wife, Ann (Deerwester) Sheridan, were blessed with a son, Christopher.

Bill earned a teaching degree from Juneau County Normal School and taught one year of elementary school. He obtained a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and a degree in aeronautical engineering from Arizona State University. Bill taught sciences in secondary schools in Wisconsin; however, most of Bill’s active career was spent in the United States Air Force. He was a flight navigator and controller for Titan Missiles. He served at Sheppard Air Force Base, Wichita Falls, Texas; Lowry Air Force Base, Denver, Colo.; Vandenberg Air Force Base, Lompoc, Calif.; Hamilton Air Force Base, San Francisco, Calif.; and Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado Springs, Colo. Bill also served for a year and a half in Okinawa. He obtained the rank of major and was honorably retired on July 1, 1978. He spent most of his post-retirement years in Madison and was a highly skilled bridge player.

Bill is survived by a son, Christopher (Paula) of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two grandchildren, Kyle and Kerry (Luis) Salcedo of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one great-grandchild, LJ Salcedo; four sisters, Sr. Pat, F.S.P.A. (Villa St. Joseph, La Crosse), Rita (Stephen) Boehrer of Hales Corners, Wis., Joan (James) Sartori of Elroy, and Annette (Marlyn, deceased) Thorson of Elroy; a sister-in-law, Florence (Terrance, deceased) Sheridan of Eau Claire; and many loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Eileen and Donna; and a brother, Terrance.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 307 Spring St., Kendall. Rev. John Peter will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery followed by a fellowship luncheon.
