William “Bill” Louis Geier, 92, of Hopkinsville, Ky., passed away peacefully Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2022, at Shady Lawn Nursing Facility in Cadiz, Ky.
He was born Jan. 23, 1930, to William and Helen (Petzke) Geier. Bill grew up on the family farm near Wilton. He graduated from Black Valley School and took over the family farms.
Bill was united in marriage to Gladys (Degner) on July 14, 1951, at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church on South Ridge near Ontario. Together they farmed and raised their family in Black Valley for 25 years. In 1976, they moved to Hopkinsville, Ky., for a warmer climate. Together they enjoyed their country home and the many trips to see the sights of western Kentucky. Bill worked for Thomas Industries for 20 years. After his retirement, he stayed busy as a mail currier for several area businesses well into his 80s. Bill enjoyed visiting with relatives, neighbors and friends. They were lifelong members of WELS and Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his children, Angela (Donn) Heath of Wilton, Carolyn (Dave) Hancock of Warrens Wis., David Geier of Milwaukee, and Michael (Doris) Geier of Norwalk; his grandchildren, Mandy, Brandon, Leigh Ann, Hannah, Tiffany, Scott, Chelsea and Michael; eight great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Orlo “Bud” Degner; a niece, Cher; and a nephew, Doug.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William and Helen; his wife, Gladys; his daughter, Dianne Hatzung; his brother, Larry; his sisters-in-law, Thelma Degner and Edith Ziesch; and his brother-in-law, Wally Ziesch.
A special thank you to Pastor Holz for his many visits and prayers, to Joe, Betty and Holly Stevens for all of the care and friendship they have given over the years, and to the staff of Shady Lawn Nursing Facility for the care and friendship over the last few years.
A graveside service will be held at a later date.
