UPDATE: The Elroy-Sparta and “400” state trails are open, according to Wildcat Mountain Work Unit manager Andrew Haffele.

In the wake of this week’s flooding, the Wildcat Mountain State Park horse campground and all of its horse trails will be closed until at least late next week, according to a press release prepared by the state Department of Natural Resources.

Additionally, segments of trails will be closed on the Elroy-Sparta and the “400” state trails until damage can be assessed, downed trees can be cleared and the water recedes.

Those who wish to visit one of these properties should call directly for the most up-to-date information, according to DNR recommendations. For contact information, search the DNR website for “Find a Park.”
