Verlyn Gaylord Krause, 83, of Tomah died Wednesday, May 8, 2013, with his family by his side at Lakeview Health Center in West Salem.
He was born May 22, 1929, to John and Irma (Sonnenburg) Krause in the town of Wellington. He was united in marriage to Eileen Simonson on Aug. 1, 1953, by Rev. C.E. Schulte at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wilton. Verlyn was baptized July 7, 1929, and confirmed July 12, 1942, at St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church on South Ridge.
He worked as a milk hauler for the Wilton Creamery, hauled furniture for Keene’s Transfer, worked at the Chitamo Cranberry Marsh and the Trego Cranberry Marsh, was a driver for Larry’s Express Dart and Meyers, and was a patrolman for the town of Tomah. He also owned and operated Verlyn’s I-90 Service.
He was a faithful member of St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church on South Ridge.
Verlyn enjoyed working with his hands and woodworking; he made furniture, walking canes, and a canoe with his son-in-law. He was always making something for someone. He enjoyed family trips and fishing. Verlyn was a quiet and hardworking man. He was a devoted husband and a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Eileen of Tomah; a son, Terry (Dorothea) of Tomah; two daughters, Judy (Ed) Mize, and Sonja Salvino, both of Tomah; six grandchildren, Edwin Mize, Josh Whitman, Vanessa Sugg, Richard Sugg, Angelina Salvino and Laura (Brad) Baker; three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Baker, Bradley Baker and Chris Mize; a sister, Bernice Creviston of Tomah; four sisters-in-law, Jean (Edwin) Geise of De Soto, Delores (Dale) Simonson of Sparta, Arlys (Glen) Simonson of Wilton and Donna Klump of Tomah; and nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Paul; an infant sister; two brothers-in-law, Ray Creviston, and Leonard Klump; a nephew, Clint Creviston; and a niece, Karla Creviston.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, at St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 25525 County Hwy. P, Ontario. Pastor Steven W. Neuman will officiate. Burial will be in South Ridge Lutheran Cemetery.
