Two people were injured in three separate motorcycle crashes Saturday on Highway 33 between Ontario and Hillsboro.
The first occurred at about 12:20 p.m. at the top of Wildcat Mountain, about 1 ½ mile east of Taylor Valley Road, according to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office. Noah Kellogg, 18, of Tama, Iowa, was traveling west on Highway 33 when he failed to negotiate a curve, crossed the eastbound lane of traffic, went under a guardrail, and came to rest in the ditch on the south side of the roadway.
A passenger on the motorcycle, Sydney Vilez, 19, of Marshalltown, Iowa, was not injured in the crash. Both the driver and the passenger were wearing helmets.
Transported to Vernon Memorial Hospital in Viroqua, Kellogg had an arm injury.
The Ontario Police Department and Ontario Fire & Rescue assisted the sheriff’s office, which is investigating the crash.
Later that day, the Ontario Police Department responded to a minor motorcycle crash near Taylor Hollow Road. No one was injured in that incident.
At about 5:05 p.m., in the third crash of the day, Daniel R. Heiser, 58, of Chicago lost control of his motorcycle as he was traveling westbound near Vet Road in the town of Forest.
Heiser was too far off of the shoulder, and the motorcycle continued down the ditch line, coming to a rest when it struck a culvert. Heiser was thrown from the motorcycle.
Sustaining non-life-threatening injuries, Heiser had been wearing a full helmet and was transported by Hillsboro EMS to St Joseph’s Hospital in Hillsboro.
The Hillsboro EMS assisted the sheriff’s office, which is investigating the crash.
