Tina (Christina) Maria Calhoun, 91, of Ontario passed away at the Morrow Memorial Home in Sparta on Saturday, March 23, 2013.

Tina was born Oct. 8, 1921, to Salvadore (Sam) and Concetta (Iaia) Sortino in Nebraska. She was raised by her father and stepmother, Concetta Filia, after her birth mother passed away after birthing Tina.

She lived in Omaha, Neb., in her youth, and when she married James Calhoun, they moved to Ontario. Later they made their home in Colorado. In the early 1990s, Tina and James moved back to Ontario.

Tina was a tender angel who touched many lives. She had a deep love for helping others and providing comfort for those in need. Tina was a very kind, gentle, loving mother and grandmother whose strong yet quiet spirit will be missed by many.

Tina is survived by her six sons, James (Joyce) of Pueblo, Colo., Mark (Donna) of Norwalk, Dave (special friend Janet) of Ontario, Tom (Kathy) of Rapid City, S.D., Alan (Nancy) of Bloomer, Wis., and Greg (Patty) of Littleton, Colo.; her sisters, Lulu Sortino, Josephine Korth, Antoinette Jankowski and Virginia Bagly, all of Omaha, Neb.; her brothers- and sisters-in-law, Cora Sortino (Subby’s wife) of Omaha, Lennie Sortino (Dickie’s wife) of Omaha, Jack (Marilyn) Calhoun of Ontario, Leona Paulson of Ontario, Rosie (Lester) Phelps of Elroy, Bessie (Duke) McElhose of Ontario, Bernice Osgold of Mauston and LaVonne Sheldon of Westby; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and other relatives and many dear friends.

Tina was preceded in death by her husband, James, on July 31, 2012; her parents; a sister, Mary; and all of her brothers, Subby, Joe, Tony, Johnny, Louie and Richard (Dickie).

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 28, at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Ontario. Pastor Bruce Milleman will officiate. Burial will follow in Dell Cemetery.

Tina is with the Heavenly Father and those who have gone before her. May she look down on us all and watch over us until we see her again in the house of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
