It’s another busy week for the neighborhood here in the middle of October. The farmers are anxiously awaiting the corn and soybeans getting ripe enough to harvest, with a few early ones on their way to market. Since I don’t have any wit or wisdom to impart, I’ll get right to the good stuff.
This past Friday, Steve Schumann’s sons came down from Tomah for a visit. Luke, Amanda and Logan arrived, as did Lance, to spend some quality time with the family.
Last Monday afternoon, Pat Zirk of Stillwater, Okla., paid me a surprise visit, and we had a good chat. On Wednesday afternoon, Paul and Denis Gifford of Kenosha were passing through and stopped for a visit, and we had supper at Flippy’s Bar and Grill in Kendall. On Saturday evening, Christopher Young and I had supper at Tabor Bar & Grill.
Ron and Arlene Garvens were in Tomah on Wednesday evening for ACT’s production of the comedy “The Nerd.”
On Friday afternoon, Leslie Reeck drove from rural Hillsboro for a good visit with Mary Parkhurst.
Allan Vlasak attended the funeral of Lois Cook on Friday at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.
The week began on Wednesday for Lynette Vlasak and Sally Dana and escalated from there, as they hosted the book discussion and movie “Seven Years in Tibet” at St. John’s Church as a part of a grant that the Kendall Public Library received for East Asia Studies.
Lynette attended the Royall Middle School’s final volleyball game at Hillsboro High School. Their team won one and lost one to end the season. On Thursday, Lynette and Sally were at Devil’s Lake for lunch at Tumbled Rock Restaurant with some of Lynette’s former coworkers. On Friday the gals attended the wedding of Darin Warneske and Jenna Schmidt in Watertown, Wis. Then they met Cheryl Neitzel, Charlene Neitzel, Sharon Neitzel Lindquist, Carol Fronk, and Rita Yahnke for lunch at Pinecone Restaurant in Johnson Creek, Wis., before attending the wedding reception in Fort Atkinson.
Saturday was party time for our gals, as they surprised Mary Anne Airth-Kindree on her 85th birthday. Then they met Darlene Martalock and went to Almost Home in Clifton for Sharon Finucan’s 80th birthday. They topped the week off by attending the potluck dinner hosted by St. Paul’s Church in Wonewoc celebrating called church workers.
This week, I am personally celebrating having good neighbors. Last week I wrote about love, and our neighborhood is filled with loving neighbors, especially Sally Dana and Lynette Vlasak, without whom this column would not have been possible today, as my computer decided to go on strike and not let me finish writing when I was almost halfway through. Thankfully, with Sally’s help here at home and Lynette’s on the phone, my problem was solved and here you have it. Praise the Lord! Have a blessed week
