Scenic Bluffs Community Health Centers was awarded a $250 Community Grant from Mormon Coulee Walmart in La Crosse.
The grant will be used to support the purchase of an interpreting tablet for the Scenic Bluffs’ La Crosse dental location.
Since 2017, Scenic Bluffs has used interpreting tablets to better serve patients’ needs. The interpreting tablets, which use the program LanguageLine Solutions, provide video interpreting support to connect patients with language support as soon as they enter the facility. LanguageLine provides interpreting for more than 40 languages, including American Sign Language, with on-demand access to a live, professional interpreter. The interpreting tablets are used at Scenic Bluffs in addition to on-site Spanish language interpreters to serve patients in their preferred language.
In 2020, nearly 10 percent of patients at Scenic Bluffs were best served in a language other than English. Since the introduction in 2017, interpreting tablets have been used for more than 62,000 minutes in appointments at Scenic Bluffs, providing support for patients in four different languages and American Sign Language.
Local Walmart Community Grants are awarded through an open application process and provide funding directly from Walmart and Sam’s Club facilities to local organizations in the U.S. These local grants are designed to address the unique needs of the communities where they operate and include a variety of organizations. Scenic Bluffs is a nonprofit, community-based healthcare provider. Scenic Bluffs accepts most private insurance, Wisconsin Medicaid and Medicare and cares for those without insurance. Additionally, Scenic Bluffs offers a sliding-fee scale program, available to those with or without insurance, which may reduce the cost of care to those who qualify. Qualifications are based on the individual’s household size and income.
