Rosina M. Schmitz, 97, of Norwalk passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at Morrow Memorial Home in Sparta.
Rosina was born March 4, 1914, to Matt and Catherine (Laufenberg) Von Ruden on St. Mary’s Ridge. On April 13, 1937, she was united in holy matrimony to Clarence Schmitz at St. Mary’s Ridge Catholic Church. The couple farmed on Summit Ridge until Clarence’s death on June 4, 1980.
Rosina was a wonderful farm wife. She worked hard, helping Clarence while raising five children. She kept a beautiful garden and raspberry patch and loved to embroider quilt blocks. She cherished her faith. But her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren meant the world to her. Rosina was the family babysitter, helping take care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who adored her. She was a resident at Norcrest Apartments in Norwalk for 15 years before moving to Morrow Memorial Home in Sparta.
Rosina is survived by her children, Cecile Flock of Norwalk, Linus Schmitz of Sheboygen, Wis., Delmar (Nancy) Schmitz of Norwalk and Gary (Lori) Schmitz of Norwalk; a daughter-in-law, Kay (Ed) Schmitz Klinkner; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Rosina was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; her parents; her son, Arnold; three grandchildren, Patricia Flock, Heather Schmitz and Christopher Schmitz; a great-grandchild, Garret Nelson; and a son-in-law, James Flock.
