Robert “Bobby” Arentz, 91, of Cashton passed away Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016, at Vernon Memorial Hospital in Viroqua.
Bobby was born in Middle Ridge, outside of Cashton, on April 18, 1924, to William and Mayme (Burback) Arentz. He was united in holy matrimony to Arlene Dunnum on Nov. 17, 1954, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Middle Ridge.
In his younger years, Bobby hauled milk and was an active member of SEVERAL baseball teams around the area. Bobby and Arlene farmed on West Portland until 1991. The farm stayed in the family, and Bobby continued to go and enjoy it. He spent some time bartending at Leo and Leona’s and Huber’s Bar, where he could see and visit with many of his friends. Bobby seldom missed a good horse pull or card game, and baseball was one of his favorite pastimes. He was very special to each of his grandchildren, and they will miss their Papa very much. Papa never missed any of his grandchildren’s events, from baseball games to school programs and Sunday school.
Bobby will be missed by his wife of 61 years, Arlene; his children, David (Debbie) Arentz of Rockland and Debbie’s children, Steve and Chris, and Kathy (David) Scharping of Cashton and their children, Sierra, Dylan and Mandi; two sisters, Elreda Meyers and Florence (Aly) Schaller, both of West Salem; a sister-in-law, Theresa Arentz of Bangor; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many good friends.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Odelia; a brother, Arnold; and a brother-in-law, Fritz Meyers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Middle Ridge. Monsignor Robert Hundt will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Family and friends are invited for visitation at the church from 4–7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 11, with a rosary being prayed at 6:30 p.m.
