Ridgeville crash results in fatality

One person was killed and two were injured Wednesday in a two-vehicle accident near the intersection of Highway 71 and County Highway T in the town of Ridgeville, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

The Monroe County 911 Communications Center was notified of the crash at 6 p.m.

During the initial investigation, deputies determined that a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox had been traveling west on Highway 71 when the driver had lost control of the vehicle and had been struck by a 2017 Chevrolet Colorado, which had been traveling east.

As a result of the crash, the driver of the Equinox was fatally injured, and the vehicle’s passenger was seriously injured. Ambulance transported the passenger, who is in critical condition, to the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse.

Sustaining minor injuries, the driver of the Colorado was transported by ambulance to the Mayo Clinic Health System Hospital in Sparta.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Norwalk Fire Department, Norwalk First Responders, and Sparta Ambulance were dispatched to the scene. The crash remains under investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is releasing none of the victims’ names at this time.
