Peter Lynn Fitch, 70, passed away Oct. 1, 2024, in Elroy, Wis. Born on May 31, 1954, to Max and Bernice Fitch. 

Peter was known for his outgoing personality, personable nature, and an uncanny sense of humor that brought joy to those around him.

Peter attended Hillsboro High School, where he began to cultivate a life marked by dedication and service. His career spanned several decades, notably at Scott Construction and Monroe County Highway Department. Until recently, he was a truck driver for United Co-op Hillsboro, showcasing his enduring work ethic and connection to his community.

Outside of work, Peter was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed gambling at the casino, where his vibrant personality and humor were well appreciated by his fellow gamers.

Peter leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, survived by his wife, Cindy Handland-Fitch; his children, Shawn (Judy) Handland and Nicole (Eugene) Springstead; his grandchildren, Isaac, Maren and Brady; his brother, Budde (Pat) Fitch; and numerous nieces, nephews and his beloved dog, BJ. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; a twin brother, an infant, Paul Fitch; his brothers, Kevin and Cedric Fitch; and his sister, Sharon Seekamp.

Peter’s life will be remembered as one filled with devotion to his family, passion for the great outdoors and a remarkable ability to make everyone around him smile. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

The services to honor and celebrate Peter’s life will be Friday, Oct. 11, with a time of visitation from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Picha Funeral Home in Elroy, Wis., a memorial service will be held at 12 p.m., with Pastor Jill Nowlen officiating. Interment will be in the Elroy City Cemetery. A celebration of his life will follow at the Elroy American Legion Hall.
