Peter C. Leis Jr., 86, of Sparta and formerly of Cashton passed away Monday, Jan. 9, 2012, at Time for Ease in Sparta.
Peter was born May 3, 1925, to Peter and Mary (Suhr) Leis in Brush Creek. He farmed his whole life; it was a job he truly loved. On Nov. 14, 1951, he married Julia Schreier, and together they farmed and raised eight children.
Peter is survived by his children, Carol (Charles Morgan) Leis of Sparta, Barbara (Ted) Denning of Chippewa Falls, Wis., Janet (Jim) Chapiewsky of Cashton, Joan (Terry) Leland of West Salem, Wis., Sharon (Nick) Trujillo of Melrose, Wis., Patrick (Shannon) Leis of Cashton, Philip (Lori) Leis of Cashton, and Susan (Howard) Larson of Bangor, Wis.; a brother, George (Dolores) Leis of Sparta; a sister, Theresa Schaub of Middle Ridge, Wis.; a sister-in-law, Gracia Leis of Sparta; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Peter was preceded in death by his wife, Julia; his parents; one granddaughter, Katie Leis; a great-granddaughter, Ava Steponik; a sister, Mary (George) Brueggeman; his brothers, Albert (Esther) Leis and Martin Leis; and a brother-in-law, Otto Schaub.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church on St. Mary’s Ridge. Father Michael Klos will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Family and friends are invited for visitation from 4–7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, with a 7 p.m. rosary, at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Cashton. Visitation also will be from 9–10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Online condolences may be offered at www.torkelsonfuneralhome.com.
