A new computer-aided dispatch system is on its way to Norwalk, the village board learned its meeting May 9.

The board approved the purchase. It will be paid for by a grant written by Norwalk Police Chief David Jones. Additionally, Jones alerted the board that there had been an uptick in suspicious activity on Main Street. He noted he would change his hours around to better confuse the lawbreakers.

Other business

• The board recognized Public Works Director Henry Vian for 20 years of service and awarded him $250.

• Vian noted work had started on the sewer plant.

• The board agreed to have Vian do what it takes to repair its iron filtration system. He is working with Gerke Excavating on solutions.

• The board authorized the purchase of a new woodchipper after Vian produces full details of the item for sale by the City of Reedsburg. On a related note, the board considered charging homeowners for any time over 15 minutes for wood chipping. The board deferred any decision to the next meeting.

• The board approved an ad for a part-time clerk treasurer. Sharon Karis had filled the position, but she had to relinquish the job after being elected to the board.
