Norman A. Mullenberg, 68, of Sparta, died Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, at Rolling Hills Rehabilitation Center in Sparta after a long battle with cancer.
He was born on Oct. 28, 1944, in the town of Jefferson, Monroe County, to Mathias and Magdaline (Hemmersbach) Mullenberg. He grew up in the town of Jefferson and graduated from Cashton High School in 1962.
Norman farmed on his family farm and worked at St. Mary’s Cheese Factory. He was caretaker for St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery for many years. He moved to Sparta in September 2001 and worked as caretaker for Woodlawn Cemetery. He also worked as crossing guard for the school children.
Norman was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sparta and was a member of the Catholic Foresters.
Norman is survived by his siblings, Kenneth (Rose) Mullenberg of Cashton, Patricia (Anthony) Spaeth of Viroqua, Darlene Olson of Elizabethtown, Penn., Juliann Meyers of Milwaukee, Marvin (Jeanette) Mullenberg of Mauston, Richard (Karen) Mullenberg of Sparta, and Phillip Mullenberg of Hillsboro, Ore.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Myron Mullenberg; a niece, Andrea Mullenberg; two brothers-in-law, Lyle Meyers and Swede Olson; and a sister-in-law, Evelyn Mullenberg.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sparta, with Father John S. Manohar officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, St. Mary’s Ridge.
Family and friends are invited to call at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home in Sparta from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday and at the church from 9-10 a.m. Wednesday. Memorials may be given to Sparta Area Cancer Support (SACS). Online condolences may be offered at www.schanhoferfh.com.
