The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has released the names of those involved in a vehicle crash Sept. 27 in the town of Clifton.
On County Highway A, near Jungle Road, George Sonntag, 52, was driving a 2012 Honda Pilot, towing a trailer that detached and struck a 2016 Chevy Silverado, which was driven by Renee Scheeler, 59. The truck then went into a ditch and rolled multiple times.
Scheeler had four passengers — Spence Scheeler, 79; Ricki Schwanz, 67; James Field, 78; and Marie Fields, 75 — all of whom sustained life-threatening injuries,
Three of the passengers were transported by medical helicopter. An extra landing zone was set up at Tomah High School to accommodate the extra helicopter.
The incident remains under investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and the Wisconsin State Patrol Technical Reconstruction Unit is investigating the accident.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office was also assisted by the Monroe County Communications Center, the Monroe County Highway Department, the Oakdale Fire Department, the Oakdale First Responders, the Tomah Fire Department, the Tomah Police Department, Gundersen MedLink and Sprit Air, as well as ambulance services from Camp Douglas, Mauston, Tomah, and Wilton.
