Starting Monday, April 23, the Norwalk-Ontario-Wilton School District will extend the school day by 15 minutes to make up lost instructional time due to inclement weather over the course of the 2017-18 school year.
This is being done to successfully meet the required hours of instruction established by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. The Norwalk-Ontario-Wilton Board of Education determined this at the regular meeting on April 16. The decision to add minutes onto the school day instead of adding days on to the end of the year is due to a high school out-of-state field trip scheduled to depart Monday, June 4.
The school start time will remain at 8 a.m., but the elementary school will be dismissed at 3:20 p.m. and the high school will be dismissed at 3:30 p.m. The school buses will depart school grounds at about 3:35 p.m. With this change, there will be enough hours accumulated to account for a few late starts and/or early dismissals. Any additional full days of school missed will be added on to the end of the school year.
