Norwalk-Ontario-Wilton Elementary School fourth- and fifth-grade students were involved in a statewide reading program sponsored through the Wisconsin Educational Media Technology Association.
Students read a list of 20 books as a team and battled it out for the top placing.
In all, 21 students in fourth and fifth grade participated, and teams ranged from three to four students. After competing against their own grade-level, the top two teams battled for the grand championship and the chance to battle against other schools statewide.
N-O-W’s fourth-grade team squeaked out the win overall by one question and, after taking the statewide test, tied for 14th place amongst 238 total participating teams.
Both teams also competed at the local fourth- and fifth-grade Battle of the Books tournament, which was in Wilton on Feb. 28, and ended up tying for third place out of 23 teams.
