Beginning Monday, Aug. 12, and continuing through Friday, Aug. 16, the Monroe County Highway Department will resurface County Highway T between Highways 131 and in the towns of Sheldon and Ridgeville (5.36 miles in length) and County Highway A between Highways 16 and 131 in the towns of Angelo, Adrian, Ridgeville and Wilton, (12.03 miles in length).
The project will include placement of a Bituminous Surface Treatment (BST), or Chip Seal, designed to preserve the pavement and restore skid resistance to the surface. Roadway users should be prepared for traffic delays and reduced speeds.
The project includes placement of a layer of polymer-modified emulsified asphalt oil followed by a layer of crushed, graded, aggregate. After the asphalt oil has cured, typically the day after application, excess aggregate is removed (swept).
During this time, the speed limit will be reduced to 25 mph to prevent damage to the fresh surfacing and to reduce the potential for airborne rock chips.
After the initial applications are complete, another thin layer of asphalt oil, or Fog Seal, is applied to further secure the aggregate, and placement of new pavement markings is scheduled. The project is highly dependent upon favorable weather conditions and schedule changes, with little advance notice, are possible.
Roadway users are encouraged to use alternate routes. Traffic control flaggers will direct traffic through the work zones, and pilot cars will be employed.
Delays of up to 20 minutes should be expected.
Scott Construction of Lake Delton, Wis., has been awarded a $518,483.80 contract to complete the project. The project is funded by Monroe County.
