The Monroe County Highway Department has received requests from two local ATV/UTV clubs to establish ATV/UTV routes along segments of County Highways A, CA, U, X and J, representing nearly 19 miles of county highways.
Copies of the requests may be viewed on the highway department website at www.co.monroe.wi.us or by visiting the department offices in Sparta.
Members of the public are invited to comment on the proposals. Written comments may be sent to the Monroe County Highway Department, 803 Washington St., Sparta, WI 54656, via fax at (608) 269-8831 or via email at highways@co.monroe.wi.us. Comments are due by Friday, Feb. 2.
Since Monroe County began allowing off-road vehicles on county highways three years ago, routes now have been approved on more than 160 miles, or about 47 percent of the county’s highway system, according to the highway department. Sixteen miles were added in 2017.
