The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office received information at about 6:12 a.m. Wednesday from the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office that a victim had reported a domestic-abuse incident that had occurred overnight in rural Norwalk.
Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies interviewed the victim and developed probable cause to arrest the suspect, Kenneth M. Sizemore, 39.
Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies went to the rural Norwalk address, where Sizemore was believed to be living in a recreational vehicle (camper) inside of a shed. After further investigation, the deputies obtained a search warrant for the shed to arrest Sizemore and to search for evidence related to the domestic-abuse allegations.
Due to threats toward law enforcement and allegations that Sizemore was armed, members of the Monroe County Combined Tactical Unit (a multi-jurisdictional SWAT team comprised of personnel from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Sparta Police Department, Tomah Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol and supported by Sparta Area Ambulance) responded to the location and attempted to engage Sizemore in communication. Over the course of nearly two hours, the tactical team attempted to communicate with Sizemore, but he refused to do so or exit the shed. Sizemore surrendered after tactical personnel entered the shed and were preparing to introduce chemical agents into the recreational vehicle.
Sizemore was medically cleared at the scene and transported to Monroe County Jail, where he was booked on the following charges:
• First-degree recklessly endangering safety
• False imprisonment
• Strangulation and suffocation
• Child abuse
• Felon in possession of firearm
• Battery
• Disorderly conduct
• Possession of drug paraphernalia
