After his wife had reported him missing, a Warrens man who had been mushroom foraging was found safe and uninjured at Wildcat Mountain State Park near Ontario, according to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office.
Katherine Rumple had dropped off her husband, Shawn Rumple, 38, on County Highway F in the town of Forest earlier in the day. When she reported him missing at 10:51 a.m., she said that she had heard gunshots in the area and that her husband hadn’t returned when he was supposed to. Concerned for her husband’s welfare, she had called 911.
Wildcat Mountain State Park rangers requested assistance from the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office and K-9 Unit, and the Kickapoo Valley Reserve, the Wisconsin DNR and the Ontario Fire and EMS Departments also helped with the search.
Along with emergency personnel, K-9 officer Mark Bellacero and K-9 Myk started to track Rumple in the area where he last had been seen. Less than 100 yards away, horseback riders found Rumple at about 12:47 p.m.
