Marie M. Whitehead, 98, of Cashton, Wis., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2023, at Springbrook Assisted Living in Onalaska, Wis. She was born to Anton and Anna (Marx) Leis on Dec. 8, 1924, and grew up in Brush Creek, rural Cashton.

Marie was united in holy matrimony to Glenn Whitehead on April 22, 1947, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Pine Hollow, Wis. Marie and Glenn were committed to being stewards of the land. Together they farmed for over 40 years. She found great joy tending to her beautiful flowerbeds. Marie’s faith was steadfast and strong, and they were active members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She cherished family gatherings and loved being with them.

Marie is survived by six children, Keith (Lorraine) of Viroqua, Wis., Glenn (Victoria) of Sparta, Wis., Barbara (Stanley) Burggraf of Monroe, Wis., Jim (Pat) of Cashton, Wis., Jeffrey of Cashton, Wis., and Ron (Carole) of West Salem, Wis.; her brother, Kenneth (Lil) Leis of Madison; a sister-in-law, Rose Mary Leis of Pewaukee, Wis.; 24 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; along with many loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn; her parents; five brothers, Herb (Virginia) Leis, LeRoy (Joyce) Leis, Walter (Margaret) Leis, Paul (Donna) Leis, and James Leis; a sister, Rose (John) Hundt; an infant sister, Elnora Leis; and her brothers- and sisters-in-law, Leo (Amanda) Whitehead, Leona (Al) Strum, Clara (Lester) Hanson, Catherine (Doug) Bernhardt, William Whitehead, Joyce (Eddie) Rushing, and Louis (Evelyn) Whitehead.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Cashton. Monsignor Robert Hundt will officiate. Burial will follow in the Pine Hollow Cemetery, rural Cashton. Family and friends are invited for visitation Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
