Marguerite Herbeck, 93, of rural Hillsboro passed away Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017, at her home.
She was born Sept. 3, 1924, to Frank and Marie (Haugh) Butcher in Valley, Wis. Marguerite graduated from Hillsboro High School and later Vernon County Normal with a teaching degree. She taught at White City, Dilly and Eastman schools.
Marguerite obtained her commercial pilot’s license and also taught flying. She was a member of the Flying Farmers, serving as their national secretary.
Marguerite was united in marriage to Elgin Herbeck on Dec. 22, 1945, in Tomah. They operated Marell Inc., a construction and excavating business started in 1950. She was a good equipment operator and later enjoyed soil testing. Elgin preceded her in death Aug. 20, 1997.
She was an active member of the Burr Wesleyan Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher for many years, and was also a member of the Hillsboro Area Historical Society and the H.O.P.E.organization, plus she enjoyed writing poetry. She was always a hardworking, independent person with a friendly smile.
Survivors include her children, Jack (Peggy) Herbeck, Tanya Herbeck(Wesley Paasch), and Scarlett (Dean) Wells; a grandson, Jack “Ponch” Herbeck; her brothers, Robert (Helen) Butcher and Chuck (Loretta) Butcher; and her sisters-in-law, Norma Hammer and Joyce Herbeck.
In addition to her husband, Elgin; she was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter-in-law, Kathy; a sister, Lillian (Fred) Subera and two brothers-in-law, Edwin Hammer and Albin (Eloise) Herbeck.
Funeral services were Saturday, Dec. 23, at Burr Wesleyan Church near Hillsboro, with Rev. Jason Kirkpatrick and Rev. Alan Tripp officiating. Interment was at Forest-Burr Cemetery. The Picha Funeral Home in Hillsboro assisted the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to H.O.P.E. or the Burr Wesleyan Church.
