Lulu E. McLain, 88, of rural Cashton passed away Dec. 14, 2012, at the Bethany St. Joseph Care Center in La Crosse.

Lulu was born Sept. 3, 1924, to Isaac and Mabel (Martinson) Stoleson in Westby. She married J.D. McLain, and together they farmed in the Melvina and Leon areas. Early on, Lulu was a professional lefse maker and sold it all around the area. She worked at Northern Engraving in Sparta for a few years, and then she worked at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Tomah as a dedicated certified nursing assistant for many years. 

Lulu is survived by her grandchildren, Harlan (Kathy) McLain, Kevin (Cindy) McLain, Lisa (Paul) Sharp, Angie (the late Mike) Imgrund and Heather (Chad) Richey; a daughter-in-law, Mary McLain; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Harlan (Betty) Stoleson; a sister, Margaret Reynolds; and other relatives and friends.

In retirement, Lulu enjoyed traveling. She traveled to New York City, Disney World, the Bahamas and Las Vegas, to name a few locations. She enjoyed listening to country music and watching the Minnesota Vikings.

Lulu was preceded in death by her husband, J.D., in 1991; her parents, Isaac and Mabel; her only son, Harlan, in 1998; and her siblings, infant brother Thomas Stoleseon, Doris Stoleson, Esther Davig, and Ada Lee.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, at Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church in Westby, with Pastor Dennis Hallemeier officiating. Burial will follow in Coon Prairie Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to visitation Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. The Torkelson Funeral Home of Cashton is assisting the family with arrangements.
