Lloyd A. Hanson, 67, of Kendall and formerly of Mindoro, Wis., passed away Sunday, June 11, 2017, at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center hospice unit in Tomah.

He was born Sept. 10, 1949, to Herman and Pearl (Paulson) Hanson in Sparta. As a young man, Lloyd started working as a farm hand at the age of 14. He was a member of the West Salem High School graduating class of 1967. After graduating high school, Lloyd enlisted into the United States Marine Corp and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War.

Upon his discharge from military service, Lloyd returned to West Salem to continue farming. On July 17, 1971, he was united in marriage to Evelyn I. Rogge. In 1985, Lloyd and Evelyn relocated to the Kendall area to farm. Throughout the years, Lloyd’s main career focus was farming, and later he was the owner/operator of his own semi truck, working independently, transporting a variety of goods.

Lloyd was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kendall. He was active in the local Kendall community, most notably preparing the barbecue chicken for the annual Kendall Labor Day celebration, which became a family affair, with all of the members of his family and many friends assisting in getting everything ready in time.

Lloyd loved hosting gatherings, and the Hanson house became the center location for many events. He held a special place in his heart for all his family, immediate and extended, siblings, nieces and nephews. They remained very close throughout the years and have many fond memories of the times they have shared. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends spending countless hours sharing stories and, of course, a joke or two and always found time to take an afternoon nap with his grandchildren.

Lloyd was very proud of his tractor and loved driving to the Tomah VA June Dairy Days and attended many events to show off his tractor. Lloyd was a steward to the Kendall community; he has dedicated countless hours to the community and could be seen many times throughout the day and night, checking on local family and friends, and was always looking for ways to lend a helping hand to others.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; his children, Michelle (David) Kuehl, Dale (Sarah) Hanson, Tim (Rachel) Hanson and Amanda (Richard) Falkowski; 10 grandchildren, Shawndee, Jordan, Whitney, Henry, Frederick, Emily, Clint, Wyatt, Sydney and RJ; and a great-grandson, Bruce. He is further survived by many brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Pearl; two brothers, Harley and Orin; and an infant sister, Corrine.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 15, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kendall. Pastor William King will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery with military honors by William J. Schriver American Legion Post 309. Relatives and friends are invited for a time of visitation at the church from 4–8 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Thursday.
