The American liars’ convention is now history. You may know it as the Republican National Convention, where Donald Trump was portrayed as the law-and-order president while he repeatedly violated the Hatch Act, and while many of his former campaign staff watched from their prison cells.

Hypocrisy has been the hallmark of the Trump presidency. White evangelicals, who claim to be devout Christians, support his program of lies, immorality, and racism.

Honorable Christians, however, have stood up to Trump hypocrites. Wisconsin Lutheran College in Milwaukee, which had scheduled Vice President Pence to speak at its commencement, told him to stay away. Alumni and students in a letter wrote: “The mere invitation of a Vice President of an incredibly divisive and controversial ticket to speak in a swing state months before an election is ignorant and deceptive.”

Racial unrest in Kenosha a few miles south might have influenced WLC. During a disturbance there, a white policeman shot a black man, Jacob Blake, seven times in the back, perhaps because he saw a knife on the floor of Blake’s car. A few days later, during a demonstration, officers met a white man, Kyle Rittenhouse, walking along a Kenosha street with a loaded assault rifle. Crowds yelled that he had just murdered two people. The officers passed him by.

A black man was shot in the back, while a white man was given a pass. There are definite advantages to being white in America, especially where white law enforcement officers are involved.
