Letter to the editor: Beware of political disinformation

By MARLA LEVERICH | Sparta

It seems there is disinformation being spread about the Republican Party platform. “Disinformation is false information deliberately and often covertly spread (as by the planting of rumors) in order to influence public opinion or obscure the truth” (Webster’s Dictionary).

The Monroe County Republican Party’s office is located at 501 W. Wisconsin St. in Sparta and is open six days a week, Monday through Saturday. There is a variety of factual information available, including the party platform, 27 pages of President Trump’s “Promises Made, Promises Kept” accomplishments in the last four years, as well as President Trump’s extensive second-term agenda. To anyone wishing accurate information about the Republican Party, you are welcome to stop by.

In a nutshell, Republicans are pro-life, pro-family, pro-faith, pro-law and order, pro-military and veterans, pro-2nd Amendment, pro-freedom, pro-capitalism, pro-school choice, and most of all pro-American!

With all the fake news around, please be a critical consumer of ALL media sources and question the legitimacy of the “facts” being fed to you by the media and others. Use primary sources for true facts. The disinformation out there is ubiquitous, from TV to newspapers to social media. This election is way too important to let fake, incorrect, biased information sway your opinion. I hope everyone will take the time to wade through the muck to get to the truth.

As someone that was fortunate to be able to serve the 96th Assembly District, which includes Monroe, Vernon, and Crawford counties, for fourteen years and seven legislative terms, I’ve met and worked with quite a few legislators and elected officials at the local, state and federal level.
