Ontario residents received a letter last week regarding lead in the municipality’s water, and that led to some confusion about the state of the water supply.

Ontario Village Board President Mike Parr offered the following comments: “First off and most importantly, there is no lead in our water and the water is safe to drink.

“Recently the village was required to take an inventory of the water lines in town to determine if there are any lead pipes in the village.  It was determined there isn’t any.  This inventory was supposed to be made public, which the village did not do and that is the reason the EPA made us send the letter to everyone, which was written by (the EPA).

“The inventory is available at the village office if anyone wants to read it.  Additionally, the village is required to have the water tested for lead, to which the tests show there is no lead in the water.  Once again, our water is safe and lead free, and no action is needed.”
