LaVern L. Westpfahl, 73, of Wilton passed away Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011, at his home.
He was born Nov. 11, 1937, to Miles and Sylvia (Wilson) Westpfahl in Tomah.

LaVern worked various jobs in the Tomah area before going to work at Northwestern Steel and Wire in Sterling, Ill. He later moved back to Wisconsin and worked at Fort McCoy until his retirement in 2000. He enjoyed deer hunting, camping and fishing and was an avid NASCAR and Green Bay Packer fan.  In the mid-1960s, he drove stock cars, and he always liked fixing cars.

He is survived by his significant other of more than 30 years, Bernita “Mae” Long of Wilton; his children, Lucinda Shelley of Rock Falls, Ill., Jodie (Larry) Weed of Dixon, Ill., Tammy (Ed) Pence of Allney, Ill., Lonnie (Lynda) Westpfahl of Effingham, Ill., Jamie Westpfahl of Miami, Okla., and Pam Crouch of Sparta; 12 grandkids and 22 great-grandkids; a sister, Grayce Keneally of Waukesha, Wis.; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Miles and Sylvia; and a great-grandchild, Jameason Westpfahl.

A memorial service will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah. Family and friends are invited for visitation one hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home. The Torkelson Funeral Home of Tomah is assisting the family with arrangements.
