Larry L. Mitchell, 84, of Denver passed away July 11, 2014.

He was born April 18, 1930, in Wilton, Wis., the son of Frank and Ella (Schwartz) Mitchell. Larry is survived by his daughter, Kelly (Michael) Russo of Silverthorne, Colo., and his son, Kurt Mitchell of Denver. He is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Lois Mae Mitchell.

Larry proudly served in the United States Air Force for 23 years, retiring in 1974. Since most of his military career revolved around education and training, he chose to continue this path as an instructor of management courses for 20 years with the Office of Personnel Management.

Larry’s career passion for education was no match for his lifelong passion for the game of baseball. Having been a diehard Chicago Cubs fan for the first 60-plus years of his life, his dream of a major league baseball team in Denver came true in 1993. He switched his alliance from the Cubs to the Colorado Rockies and never looked back. He was a season ticketholder for 20 years and went to games rain or shine. He delighted in taking others to games, where he passed on his knowledge and love of baseball.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Colorado Rockies Baseball Club Foundation.
