Kenneth S. Pufahl, 80, of La Crosse and formerly of the Kendall area died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2010, at Proctor Hospital in Peoria, Ill.
He was born Aug. 30, 1930, to Ferdinand “Fernie” and Josephine (Levy) Pufahl on the family farm in the town of Glendale. He was a member of the Kendall High School graduating class of 1948.
He was a member of the United States Army. Kenneth was united in marriage Oct. 29, 1976, to Nancy Stebbins at St. Angela’s Catholic Church in Chicago. She preceded him in death Dec. 21, 2007. He worked as a supervisor for the Armstrong & Blum Cooperation for many years and was a maintenance technician at Viterbo University in La Crosse for eight years. Ken enjoyed spending time with his family and longtime friends, reminiscing about “the good old days.” Many will remember him as a kind, honest man.
He is survived by two stepsons, George (Joanne) Scholz of Elk Grove Village, Ill., and Daniel Scholz of Peoria; a stepdaughter-in-law, Susan Scholz of Peoria; four grandchildren, Amber, Andrew, Jennifer and Steven; and two brothers-in-law, Richard (Evie) Stebbins and Donald (Joan) Stebbins. He is further survived by many cousins, neighbors and friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nancy; a stepdaughter, Christine Short; a stepson, William; three sisters, Mary, Agnes and Lucille; and a brother, Joseph.
A prayer service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 301 Spring St., Kendall. Father Richard C. Dickman will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery, with military honors by the William J. Schriver American Legion Post 309. Relatives and friends are invited to call from 2:30 p.m. until the time of services Thursday at the church. The Smith-Nelson Funeral Home of Kendall is assisting the family with arrangements.
