Janice “Jan” Kanable, 83, of Cashton, Wis., passed away peacefully Monday, May 2, 2022, at her home, with her loving family at her side.

Jan was born to Keith and Ethel (Hendrickson) Rich in Ontario, Wis., on Nov. 19, 1938. On April 13, 1974, Janice married her best friend, Al Kanable.

Janice was well known in Cashton because of her many years of working at the Cashton Village Office. She was an active member of the Cashton VFW Ladies Auxiliary, where she volunteered for many events. Janice loved to have fun; she was a long-time member of the K-Hills Bowling Team, where she “tried” to be a good bowler; she also loved to play games, go out for dinner with family and friends, and take rides to see her children and grandchildren. Janice will probably be remembered most by her ability to get a rise out of whomever she happens to be with, family, friend or stranger.  She never meant any harm, but she enjoyed the challenge.  She will be fondly missed by many.

Janice is survived by her husband of 48 years, Al; her children, Candace “Candy” (Jim) Wilbur and son Martin (Lindy) Coonen and kids, Riley and Hallie, Steve (Mary) Braund and daughter Hannah, LaCinda “Cindy” (Pat) Brueggen and their children, Abby (fiancé Chris Toufar) Brueggen, Andrew (Jenna) Brueggen and kids Ollie, Barry, and Nora, Sam Brueggen and Hailey Brueggen, and Scott (Debbie) Braund and children Ashley (fiancé Alex Mrotek) Braund, and Austin Braund; her sister-in-law, Delores Rich; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Keith and Ethel Rich, and her siblings, Shirley (Duane “Brandy”) Downing, Sonny Rich, and Donald (Mary) Rich.

Everyone who knew Janice will understand that family is carrying out her wishes. Therefore, a private family burial in the Brush Creek Cemetery in rural Ontario, Wis., is scheduled for a later date. Family has asked that if desired, donations may be made to the Cashton VFW Auxiliary, the Cashton High School Scholarship Fund, Trinity Lutheran Church or to the Cashton First Responders in her name.
