Holiday-weekend update

Monroe County reported 23 new Covid-19 cases on Dec. 24; 14 on Dec. 25; seven on Dec. 26; nine on Dec. 27; and 14 on Dec. 28.

Of the county’s 3,402 total cases since the start of the pandemic, 3,250 have recovered, 125 are active (two are hospitalized), and 27 have died.

Vernon County reported the following new cases over the holiday weekend.

Thursday, Dec. 24

The county reported 12 new cases, all of whom were recovering at home:

• A male between 10–19 years old

• A male in his 30s

• A male in his 40s

• Three males in their 50s

• A male in his 60s

• Three females in their 20s

• A female in her 40s

• Three females in their 50s

That brought the county’s tally to 1,475, of which 1,256 had recovered, six were hospitalized, 182 were isolating at home, and 31 had died.

Friday, Dec. 25

The county had nine new cases:

• A male between 10–19 years old who is recovering at home

• A male in his 20s who is recovering at home

• A male in his 30s who is recovering at home

• Two females between 10–19 years old who are recovering at home

• Two females in their 20s who are recovering at home

• A female in her 50s who is recovering at home

• A female in her 80s who has been hospitalized

Of the county’s 1,484 positive results, 1,256 had recovered, seven were hospitalized, 190 were isolating at home, and 31 had died.

Monday, Dec. 28

The county reported three new deaths, bringing its total to 34 since the start of the pandemic. One resident was a woman in her 90s, and two were men in their 70s.

The health department stated, “Our team would like to express our deepest condolences to the family, friends and those impacted by this loss of life.”

Also, Vernon County had 25 new cases:

• Two males between 10–19 years old who are recovering at home

• A male in his 20s who is recovering at home

• Three males in their 30s who are recovering at home

• Five males in their 40s who are recovering at home

• Two males in their 50s who are recovering at home

• Three males in their 60s, one of whom is recovering at home and two who are hospitalized

• A female in her 20s who is recovering at home

• Two females in their 30s who are recovering at home

• Three females in their 40s who are recovering at home

• Two females in their 50s who are recovering at home

Of the county’s 1,509 total cases, 1,323 have recovered, seven are hospitalized, 148 are recovering at home, and 34 have died.

Juneau County had 23 new cases from Dec. 24–27 and nine on Dec. 28, resulting in a total of 1,799, of which 160 are active (three are hospitalized), 270 have been released from isolation, 1,359 have recovered, and 10 have died.

Juneau County keeps a separate count of cases within its residential facilities. At the New Lisbon Correctional Institute, no new inmate cases were reported from Dec. 24–28. Since the Aug. 15 start of the outbreak, 540 positive tests have been recorded, of which four are active and none are hospitalized.

Also, no new cases were reported at the Sand Ridge Secure Treatment Center, where 49 residents had tested positive since the Dec. 3 start of an outbreak. At present, none of those cases are active.
