Hazel H. Witham, 84, of the town of Lafayette, rural Chippewa Falls, Wis., died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Chippewa Falls.

She was born April 27, 1926, in Ontario to Irene (Walters) and Scott Walker. She was raised in Ontario, where she graduated from high school in 1944.

Hazel married Chester C. “Chet” Witham on Nov. 6, 1945, in Ontario. In 1953, they moved to Chippewa Falls, where she was employed as a waitress for more than 35 years, working at Bennett Drug, The Silver Grill and Woolworths and retiring in 1982.

She is survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews, and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Chet, on Dec. 23, 2002; a sister, Gladys Hansen; two brothers, Max and Walter Walker; and one nephew, Clifford Hansen.

A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel in Chippewa Falls, with Rev. Fr. Robert Hoekstra of the Chippewa Manor Retirement Community officiating. Interment will be in Bateman Cemetery, town of Lafayette. Friends may call at the funeral chapel one hour prior to the service Wednesday.

Everyone loved Hazel. She enjoyed pretty much everything she ever did and everyone she ever met. Her laughter filled the room.
