Harley M. Chambers, 90, of Wilton died Sunday, March 10, 2013, at the Morrow Memorial Home, Sparta.
He was born Aug. 23, 1922, to William and Sarah (Beaver) Chambers in Cashton. He was a graduate of the Wilton High School. Harley proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army, serving during World War II.
On Oct. 18, 1952, Harley was united in marriage to Kathleen Rice at St. John Catholic Church, Wilton. Together they have lived in the Wilton area all of their married lives. Harley took over the family farm, retiring in 2002. For two terms, Harley served as the Town of Wilton Chairman. He was a faithful and devoted member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and was a member of the Hanson-Stark-Leith-Paeth American Legion Post 508.
Harley was a hard-working man who took great pride in his farm and working the land. He enjoyed watching the season pass and planning the upcoming year’s work. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen of Wilton; four children, James Chambers of Mauston, Richard Chambers of Columbus, Wis., Christopher (Diane) Chambers of Wilton and Mary (Richard) Skolos of Kendall; six grandchildren, Tasha (Joe) Bialkowski of Waunakee, Wis., Jessica and Jason Chambers of La Crosse, Brandon Skolos of Kendall, Jared Chambers of Wilton and McKenzie Skolos of Kendall; two great-grandchildren, Wrigley and Tori Bialkowski, both of Waunakee; a sister, Geraldine Schindler of Rockford, Ill.; a sister-in-law, Marian Bohac of Tomah; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Joshua Chambers; and four siblings, Alton, Delbert, Shirley and William.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 14, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Wilton. Father Richard C. Dickman will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery, with military honors by Hanson-Stark-Leith-Paeth American Legion Post 508.
Relatives and friends are invited to call at the church from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Thursday. Online condolences may be given at www.sonnenburgfamilyfh.com.
