A guardrail was extensively damaged in a single-vehicle crash Dec. 2 on Highway 33, near Optic Road, in the town of Sheldon, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

After receiving the call at about 3:11 a.m., officers arrived of the scene and discovered the driver had fled the scene in his vehicle. Through the investigation, officers found the driver, Thomas Ray Peterson, 19, of Ontario and his 2003 Dodge Ram pickup truck. Peterson, who had not been injured, told officers he had fallen asleep and had hit the guardrail.
