Gjefle: Building and Battling

By PASTOR MICHAEL T. GJEFLE

Faith Independent Baptist Church, Ontario

Psalm 127:1 — “Except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it; except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.”

Like it or not, real life involves building and some battles! How wise we are to follow God’s plan for mankind revealed in His Word the Bible. We all have a sin problem that we can’t fix with religion and our own righteousness.

Jesus said, “… Except a man be born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God” (John 3:3).

Jesus Christ must be the foundation and cornerstone of our faith. He is “the chief cornerstone (1 Peter 2:6) to build our lives upon! He is the solid Rock that will not change or move for all eternity. How important to build our lives, our family, our churches, and our nation upon His wisdom and ways.

There are also some battles we must face in this life. Life has many dangers and challenges as we seek to build wisely in life. We must seek to protect these things we seek to build. Here we read if the watchman alert to potential dangers, yet how critical to seek God’s help and protection for our homes, families, and nation. America must heed the warning to nations in Psalm 9:17, “The wicked shall be turned into hell and all the nations that forget God.”

In Matthew 7:21-23, our Lord Jesus gives to us a serious warning with eternal consequence. In the next verses, He emphasizes the wise and the foolish individual. Oh, take time to listen to the words of the Savior … believe on Him and build your life and its details according to His wisdom. We have the liberty to listen or not listen to Him, but we do not get to choose the consequences for our choices. Are you and I being wise or foolish according to the words of the Savior found in Matthew 7:24-27?
