Frieda M. Ennis, 98, of Wonewoc died Monday, Jan. 9, 2012, at her home.

The daughter of Rudolph and Martha (Voigt) Penshorn, she was born in the town of Woodland, Sauk County, on March 20, 1913. She was born on Holy Thursday in 1913, and on 2008 she celebrated her 95th birthday, also on Holy Thursday.

She was united in marriage to Sylvester Ennis on June 10, 1936, in Bloomington, Wis. They lived and farmed near Wonewoc their entire lives, until Sylvester passed away June 28, 1975.

Frieda worked many years as a cook at Wonewoc-Center Schools. She was a past president of the Hillsboro Hospital Auxiliary and St. Jerome’s Altar Society. She was instrumental in starting the Wonewoc Neighbor’s Senior Club. She enjoyed refinishing furniture, baking bread, decorating cakes and making quilts. She loved playing cards — especially solitaire. Until July 2011, she was able to attend the senior meals, play euchre and socialize with her friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sylvester; her daughter, Carol Miller; her son, Rudolph; her brother, Norvin; her sister, Eleanor; her son-in-law, Stanley Flaig; and her grandson, Robbie Flaig.

She is survived by her two sons, Ronald (Kathy) Ennis and James (Sharon) Ennis, both of Wonewoc; two daughters, Mrs. Barb Flaig of Ontario and Diane (Dale) Field of Wonewoc; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Dorothy Reineke of Manitowoc, Wis.; and her sisters-in-law, Mary Penshorn of Madison and Marie Stahlke and Rosalie (Jerry) Sanderson of Elroy.

A Mass of Christian Burial was conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at St. Jerome’s Catholic Church in Wonewoc, with Father Donald Bauer officiating. Burial followed in St. Theresa’s Catholic Cemetery in Union Center.
