A Monroe County jury convicted 74-year-old Anne N. Nelson-Koch on all 25 counts of sex crimes today, according to Monroe County District Attorney Kevin Croninger.
The charges stem from Nelson-Koch’s repeated sexual assaults of a 14-year-old male student in the basement of a private school in Tomah during the 2016–2017 school year.
Following a three-day jury trial, the jury deliberated for about five hours before reaching their verdict.
Assistant District Attorney Sarah M. Skiles prosecuted the case with assistance and support from the staff of the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office.
Skiles said, “The victim of these crimes is an incredibly brave young man. He spoke the truth, and the jury heard him loud and clear. We are so grateful to the jury for their dedication to finding the truth.”
The investigation into this matter was led by Investigator Paul Sloan of the Tomah Police Department.
Skiles said, “We could not have achieved this outcome without the victim’s strength and Investigator Sloan’s dedication and thorough investigation.”
Nelson-Koch was represented by Russell Hammer and Carly Sebion.
Following the announcement of the jury’s verdict, ADA Skiles requested Monroe County Circuit Court Judge Richard Radcliffe, who presided over the case, to revoke Nelson- Koch’s bond and remand her to custody pending sentencing. Nelson-Koch was subsequently released to the community with GPS monitoring pending sentencing.
Sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 27, 2023. Nelson-Koch faces more than 600 years of prison at sentencing.
