Evelyn L. Zirk, 97, of rural Elroy passed away Friday, March 23, 2018 at Milestone Senior Living in Hillsboro, Wis.

She was born Aug. 6, 1920, to Martin Olous and Ella Mae (Myers) Olson in Elroy. Evelyn graduated from Elroy High School and Juneau County Normal. She taught in various one-room country schools in the area.

Evelyn was united in marriage to Raymond Zirk on Aug. 5, 1944, at Peace Lutheran Church in Elroy. They had been lifelong farmers in the town of Glendale, Monroe County, on the farm she loved. He preceded her in death on Sept. 21, 2009.

She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church and the Esther Circle; she sang at many weddings and funerals, was a member of the Helpful Homemakers Club and Red Hat Society, and served on the St. Luke’s Preservation Committee. Evelyn enjoyed writing poetry, creating arts and crafts, and corresponding with friends and relatives through cards and letters.

Survivors include her sons, Randall (Susan) of Madison, Bruce (Julie) of La Valle and Jerry of Elroy; her grandchildren, Mackenzie, Alyssa, and Jennifer Zirk, Amanda (Bryan) Dachel and Emily Mcatter; and her nieces and nephews and all of her special friends.

In addition to her husband, Raymond, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Sherri (2002); her sister, Ardis (Don) Preuss; and her brother, Martin (Helen) Olson.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 28, at Grace Lutheran Church in Elroy, with Rev. James Gerth officiating. Burial will be in St. Luke’s Lutheran Cemetery in rural Elroy.
