Contractors have left the job site on the Elroy-Sparta State Trail, suspending work between Kendall and Elroy, including a bridge repair, but DNR officials still expect the work will be done in late September.
According to Andrew Haffele, superintendent of the DNR’s Wildcat Mountain Team, which oversees the trail, the DNR had been awaiting FEMA’s completion of the Environmental and Historic Preservation Review, which was a prerequisite to the individual waterway permits for the repairs. The EHP was finished last week, and the waterway permits are underway.
The DNR expects that the contractors will return in June and finish the trail repairs, Haffele said.
