Elna B. Englerth, 94, of rural Ontario died Friday, July 9, 2010, at Tomah Memorial Hospital.
She was born Nov. 2, 1915, to Frank and Martha (Zuhlke) Witt in the town of Wellington. Elna attended the Webb Country School. She was baptized Nov. 30, 1915, and confirmed Aug. 4, 1929, at St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was united in marriage on May 15, 1940, to Lawrence “Bud” Englerth at St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, South Ridge. He preceded her in death Oct. 22, 1987. Elna and Bud farmed all their married lives side by side in the town of Sheldon.
She was a faithful and lifelong member of St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. Elna was a Sunday school teacher for many, many years. She was an avid gardener, growing numerous different vegetables and flowers on the farm. She was a lover of almost every animal and creature, except for snakes. She also enjoyed cooking for family and friends. She was a devoted wife and a loving mother and grandmother.
She is survived by a son, Harlan (Sharon) Englerth of Madison; two grandchildren, Clay (Nicole) Englerth and Cliff Englerth, both of Madison; a great-grandchild, Ethan; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bud; and a brother, Edwin Witt.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 12, at St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, South Ridge, in the town of Wellington. Pastor Steven W. Neuman will officiate. Burial will be in the South Ridge Lutheran Cemetery.
The Smith-Nelson Funeral Home, 702 Center St., Wilton, assisted the family with arrangements.
