Elizabeth “Betty” A. Hericks was born Oct. 17, 1927, to Peter and Mary Miller. She grew up outside of Cashton near Pine Hollow and married Walter Hericks on June 18, 1949.  After marriage, they farmed on St. Mary’s Ridge until 1988, when they retired and moved to Norwalk.  They lived in Norwalk until 2006, when they moved to Sparta.  She was involved in Altar Society and Merry Homemaker, and worked for the visiting nurses.

Betty passed away Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2015, peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family, at the age of 87 years, 10 months, and 22 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter Hericks; a son, Phillip; two daughters-in-law, Lisa (Mack) Hericks and Diane (Massicotte) Hericks; a sister, Margaret Zebell; three brothers, Leonard, Clarence and Norbert; and a granddaughter, Heather Massicotte. 

Betty is survived by her children, Arthur Hericks, Debbie (Larry) Muehlenkamp, David (Rachel) Hericks, Cathy (Don) Schwarz, and Laurie (Jerry) Cooley; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren (with two on the way); three sisters, Mary Ann (Matt) Becker, Angeline (Ray) Becker and Darlene (Gerald “Bud”) Kneifl; and a brother, Levi (Norma) Miller.    

    A Mass of Christian Burial was Monday, Sept. 14, at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sparta, with Father Jerome Patrick officiating. The Folk Choir sang. Burial was held at a later date at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery on St. Mary’s Ridge. Michael Hericks, Anthony Hericks, Ian Hericks, Wayne Selbrede, Dave Gunn, Brian Brieske, and Donna Muellenberg were pallbearers. Online condolences were offered at www.schanhoferfh.com.

The Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home in Sparta assisted the family with funeral arrangements.
