Eldora Helen Thomas, “Dory,” 89, of Norwalk, Wis., passed away peacefully Thursday, Nov. 14, 2024, surrounded by her family.
She was born Oct. 6, 1935, on the family farm in Oakdale, Wis., to Rineholt and Beata (VonHaden) Wagner. On Oct. 2, 1965, she was united in marriage to Leonard Thomas. They farmed for many years together in the Township of Sheldon.
Eldora was known for her delicious meals and ability to always make room at the table for others. Babysitting for family and friends was a highlight of her life. She left a beautiful impression of kindness on the children.
Family time was important to Eldora. She loved spending time with them. Later in life, many good conversations were held while putting puzzles together with her family and friends. Eldora also loved being the Amish taxi. She made many friends and knew those backroads like the back of her hand.
After farming, employment was found at Band Box in Tomah, Wis., and later at Rolling Hills Nursing Home in Sparta.
The most profound impact in Dory’s life occurred Feb. 14, 1992, when she attended several weeks of Gospel meetings. Dory accepted the saving Grace of the Lord Jesus Christ. Isaiah 44:22 was the revelation of her new birth. Dory’s last wishes involved hope that everyone not already saved might come to believe and trust in the Lord as she had done.
Dory is survived by her children, Carol (Conrad) Zielke of Ontario, Wis., Donna (Ron) Luethe of Norwalk, Wis., Robert (Jeann) Farrar of Ontario, Wis., Sue (Nate) Feala of Hillsboro, Wis., and David (Nancy) Thomas of Norwalk, Wis.; three stepchildren, Malinda (Ralph) Hunter of Whitewater, Wis., Elberta Bennett of Florida and Danny Thomas of Texas; along with many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and dear friends.
