Dennis Norman Hemmersbach, 64, of rural Norwalk, Wis., passed away with his family by his side, at his beloved farm, on Thursday, Feb. 22, 2024.  Dennis was born March 4, 1959, to LaVern and Cecilia (Schreier) Hemmersbach.

He graduated from Cashton High School in 1978. Dennis and Julie (Leis) were high school sweethearts. They were united in holy matrimony on Aug. 26, 1978, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cashton.  One year later, they purchased a farm across the road from where he grew up.  He and Julie made this their home, where they loved raising their three children, Nathan, Misty and Cory. Their children grew up on the farm, as he did, helping out with day-to-day chores.

Dennis worked several years in Norwalk at the Heilman’s Feed Mill. Dennis was well respected in the town of Wells, where he served as the town chairman for nearly 20 years.  He was an active member on the Westby Creamery Board for six years and a 20-year FFA alumnus.

Dennis loved to have fun with his family and friends.  He rarely turned down a chance to play volleyball or softball anywhere in the area. He enjoyed hunting and fishing as well.  But his grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he loved every minute spent with them playing cards, doing chores, joking with and picking on them. He was a wonderful, loving husband, dad and grandpa.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Julie; his son, Nathan Hemmersbach, and his children, Lacey, Lucas and Logan, all of Norwalk; his daughter, Misty (Casey) Schroeder, and their children, Shelby, Donald and Reid of Sparta; his son, Cory (Shayla) Hemmersbach, and their children, Hazel, Jordy and Porter of Leon; his siblings, Dan of Sparta, Mike (Cindy) of Sparta, LaVern Jr. (Bonnie) of Sparta, Tom (Carolyn) of Sparta, Jeff (Priscilla) of Sparta, Norman (Marie) of Westby, Jerry (Donna) of Cashton, Mary (Jeff) Sullivan of Sparta, Connie (Dan) Berendes of Norwalk, Joe (Deb) of Norwalk, and Steve (Dori) of Sparta; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and good friends.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, LaVern and Cecilia; two sisters-in-law, Bonnie and Sue Hemmersbach; and his father- and mother-in-law, Joe and Ardella Leis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 1, at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church on St. Mary’s Ridge, rural Norwalk. Burial will take place at a later date in the church cemetery.  Family and friends are invited to visitation on Thursday, Feb. 29.  Rosary will begin at 3:30 p.m., followed by visitation until 7 p.m. at the church.  Visitation also will be held Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
