Dale DeWitt, 59, of Ontario, Wis., passed away peacefully in the arms of his wife, Virginia, on Thursday, Oct. 5, 2023, in his beloved home, after his battle with cancer.
Dale was born June 9, 1964, to Otis and Karen DeWitt of Ontario. He was a 1982 graduate of Brookwood High School. On Aug. 25, 1984, Dale was united in holy matrimony to his best friend, Virginia Leis.
Dale grew up competing in pony pulls and rodeos with his dad. He played in several different leagues for softball, horseshoes, and pool. Dale was a great fisherman, and his favorite fishing partner was wife Virginia. He had a true love for the outdoors, and once his grandchildren were old enough to go fishing and out in the woods, he was happy. Dale loved spending time with his family. Family meant everything to him.
Dale owned his own logging business for the last few decades. He proudly passed his love of logging onto his son and grandson. He instilled his strong work ethic in the next generation. Dale took pride in being a loving and strong husband, father, and papa to a large family. He had a heart of gold and an energetic sense of humor.
Dale is survived by his wife, Virginia, of 39 years; his mom, Karen; Dale’s loving children, Cody (Maria) DeWitt of Ontario, Casey Long (Nate Holder) of Clarksville, Tenn., and Kelsey (Joey) Jorgenson of Livingston, Wis.; 10 grandchildren, Ethan, Nadia, Jessica, John, Jayden, Erica, Riley, Alyssa, Teagan, and Thayne; his siblings, Renee (Greg) Carpenter of Rockton, Wis., Kevin (Kim), Mike (special friend, Stacey Burnstad), and O’Dean (special friend, Amanda), all of Ontario, Wis.; along with many adoring nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
Dale was preceded in his death by his father, Otis DeWitt, and his mother- and father-in-law, Erma and Urban Leis.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, at the Old School/Grace Haven Church, 114 Church St., Ontario, Wis. Pastor Bob Streeter will officiate. Burial will follow in the Billings Creek Cemetery in rural Ontario. Family and friends are invited for visitation Monday, Oct. 9, from 3–7 p.m. at the Old School/Grace Haven Church in Ontario. Visitation will also be held Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
