Cheryl A. Vlasak, 72, of Janesville passed away Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2024, at home.

She was born in Lancaster on July 23, 1952, the daughter of Charles and Geraldine (Needham) Kilby. She was a 1970 graduate of Parker High School. Cheryl married Roger D. Vlasak on May 12, 1979. She worked as a billing clerk for Briggs Transport Company until their closure. She then worked at CCX Trucking until she retired.

She loved shopping at thrift stores, especially Goodwill, Salvation Army and Edgerton Outreach thrift store. Cheryl was known for her colorful clothing; she enjoyed sewing, sudoku puzzles, cooking, baking, and collecting red ruby glass items. She loved reading, which included romance and mystery paperback novels and her many cookbooks. Most of all, she loved spending time with her grandkids; they would visit the library, go for lunch and get ice cream. Easter and Easter egg hunts were her favorite holiday to spend with family. She was a very gentle, soft-spoken person and oftentimes the peacemaker.  Although Cheryl didn’t want another dog, she grew to love “Willie” as if he was another child.

Cheryl is survived by her loving husband, Roger; two sons, Kurt (Melanie) Vlasak and Christen (Heather) Vlasak, both of Janesville; four grandchildren, Payten, Gemma, Kendall and Kolt; her sister, Tara Kilby of Fulton; her half-sister, Shana Ford; and other extended family and friends she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws, Adolf and Esther Vlasak; and her sister-in-law, Donna Downing.

A visitation for Cheryl will be from 3–6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, at Apfel Ehlert Funeral Home, 315 Lord St. (Hwy. 51), Edgerton. For online condolences, go to www.apfelfuneral.com.
