Area Community Theatre Director Rocky Shutter is looking for 11 men and three women to cast in the theatre’s February production of Joseph Kesselring’s play “Arsenic and Old Lace.”

Auditions are scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 20, and 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, in the theatre’s main floor meeting room at 907 Kilbourn Ave. in Tomah.

Written in 1939, “Arsenic and Old Lace” is a dark comedy centered on the Brewster family. Drama critic Mortimer Brewster is planning to marry Elaine Harper before he is forced to deal with his “unusual” family. Hisaunts Martha and Abby Brewster have a unique method of helping lonely gentlemen find peace. His brother Teddy believes he is actually Teddy Roosevelt and that Panama is located in the Brewster house’s basement. Finally, Mortimer’s brother Jonathan arrives at the family home looking like Boris Karloff and bringing along a suspicious (and drunken) plastic surgeon. The police aren’t far behind.

A cast list will be posted on both the will-call door and on the front entrance of the new box office. It will also be posted on ACT’s Facebook page. This information will be available after 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 26. Rehearsals will begin with a read through of the play Monday, Nov. 27.

Performance dates for “Arsenic and Old Lace” will be Feb. 8–11 and Feb. 15–18. All evening performances will begin at 7 p.m., while Sunday matinees will start at 2 p.m. Tickets will be available Jan. 29 at the ACT box office or online at tickets.tomahact.com
